Simon qualified at Guys Hospital in 1977. Came
up to work at the Norfolk & Norwich in Paediatrics and liked
the area so much that he joined the Vocational Training Scheme
and became a principle in general practice in 1982. Has been
a trainer in general practice since 1985. Was the GP Tutor
at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital from 1989 to 1992 where
he realised just how little he knew about medical education.
As a result, he spent three years completing the Dundee Course
in Medical Education. He now has a particular interest in
the development of a curriculum for training and how to encourage
doctors to develop their own learning skills. An honorary
senior lecturer at the University of East Anglia, he is also
heavily involved in training nurse practitioners at the University.
He has recently been promoted from course organiser to patch
director & is leading on the SHO training reforms.
He is also involved with organising and
mentoring Academic GP VTS posts for which he could be
contacted.
