We have been a training practice since 1998 and have enjoyed being part of many registrars' training. We hope that they have enjoyed their time in Aylsham. We have been involved with teaching students from UEA for the last 5 years and currently teach a first year and fifth year cohort. We also train F2 doctors in the practice.

We are a friendly, relaxed practice and aim to make the registrar feel part of the team. We have five partners and an assistant, and a full range of attached staff (HCAs, practice nurses, ECP, midwife, health visitor, district nurses, Macmillan nurse, counsellor, alcohol counsellor as well as private chiropodists and physios).

All the doctors and staff are involved with education and the partners all share the debriefing, supervision and tutorials.

Aylsham is a small market town 12 miles north of Norwich .We look after a population of just under 8000 patients from the town and the villages in about an 8 mile radius around it. We share the care of our local community hospital with our neighbouring practice and also look after several learning disability units. More information about the practice is available on our website: www.themarketsurgery.nhs.uk

Jamie Mumford has been a trainer for 10 years and in 2007 Pete Lawson also was accredited as a trainer. We are now able to supervise either two registars or a registrar and F2 doctor in the practice. The medical students are supervised by Pete Lawson and Helen Sharp, and as with the registrars, all the partners (and the registrar) are involved with their teaching.

All surgeries are supervised and debriefed and the registrar will have a weekly tutorial. We have a weekly educational and business meeting on a Friday afternoon and bi monthly journal clubs. We all enjoy many varied interests outside work and expect our registrar to balance their work and other interests.

We have excellent facilities. The registrar has their own room and there is a large library/ boardroom to use for tutorials and meetings.

Our most recent accreditation visit from the Eastern Deanery was in July 2006, and the visitors commented, " A very good training practice. The whole practice is involved in education and the manager and senior staff have fostered a good learning climate. The practice has continued to progress and all partners have an interest in education."
